HVAC - Trade Specialist

Job Details

The Trade Specialist  is responsible for delivering expert, trade specific knowledge to evaluate complicated work tasks, including capital replacements, multi-location projects, and quotable work where the scope goes beyond normal repairs or established not to exceed (NTEs).  Trade Specialists must be able to evaluate a Service Provider’s scope of work and related costs to determine fairness and accuracy; the evaluation also includes alternative work scenarios that could lower customer cost and/or decrease customer asset down time.  Successful Trade Specialists must be able to work effectively and efficiently to meet SLA commitments, have strong communications skills to interact with other internal departments as well as Clients and Service Providers, and must have strong negotiation skills to meet cost savings commitments.

  • Analyze and scrutinize ‘multi-trade’ proposals for accurate scope of work and cost.  Contact Service Providers to discuss scope of work and cost, and negotiate changes in scope and/or reductions in cost, as needed.  Make recommendations on most cost effective/efficient solutions for the Clients.  Decision process may include ‘move forward’ recommendation, negotiating with service provider and/or suggesting alternative solutions to the Account teams.
  • Collaborate with Account teams and other internal departments to achieve key results, such as corporate goals and customer KPI.  Support the Account team with escalations, technical issues and potential problem sites/assets.
  • Establish and maintain Service Provider and Supplier/Manufacturer relationships.  Identify Service Provider utilization and performance metrics, and share feedback with Service Provider and Account teams.  Suggest increased utilization of top performing Service Providers to Account teams.  Coach poor performing Service Providers to improved performance.  Leverage national buying power with manufacturers and suppliers and work with Purchasing to procure lower cost material, on behalf of client.

Required Education and Experience 

  • 3+ years of general contracting work experience; Trade license a plus
  • Subject matter expertise HVAC/R
  • Associate’s (two year) Degree preferred
  • 1+ year(s) of price negotiation and profitable proposal creation
  • 1+ year(s) of customer service experience, recruitment or inside sales experience
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Has a strong understanding of facilities maintenance issues
  • Trade license a plus
